PATENT STUDIES
SEEDS Patent Summer School
The SEEDS Patent Summer School intensive, hands-on program is designed for researchers, PhD students, and professionals interested in exploring how patent data can be used to study innovation, technological change, and economic dynamics.

Mix theory with practice
The summer school is open to Ph.D. and post-doctoral students as well as more experienced scholars who want to explore the wealth of information provided by patent data and their potential for research activities. Indeed, the summer school is intended to guide the attendees through the items that compose patent data fromraw data to the elaboration of more sophisticated statistics and indicators. Given theresearcher orientation of the summer school, recent papers and milestones in thepatent literature will be discussed.
The lectures in the first days follow a structured approach that combines theory with practical application. The practical part is aimed at developing technical skills in patent data management and analysis. Through guided exercises and examples, students acquire the necessary proficiency to navigate the complexities of patent statistics effectively.
A non-exhaustive list of the topics explored during the lecture includes: technological classification codes, citations, name disambiguation, address geo-localisation, legal events, text analysis, etc.
Workshop: On the final day, we culminate the summer school with a workshop in which esteemed researchers will present recent papers showing the code, data and management practices that stand behind the empirical analysis.
